REAL TECHNIQUES by Samantha Chapman - Basically they’re real sweet.
So one of the things that lead me to get into makeup was Pixiwoo. If you do not know Pixiwoo go to youtube and type it in and watch or I will scream. I won’t scream it is much too late, but anyway, go watch them they are lovely and know HEAPS LOTS about makeup. And as a result of their youtube fame, Sam, one of the two sisters, now has these brushes which I was dying to try and finally found a website that shipped to Aus (iHerb.com) that sold them. ANYWAY I bought the Your Base/Flawless Core Collection set and the Your Eyes/Enhanced Starter Set. That made it 8 brushes for about $40 WITH the more expensive tracked postage. WHICH IS REALLY REALLY CHEAP YOU GUYS. And after trying them (that is the above picture with Vyv squirming) I am really impressed. I would just recommend buying both sets, but I will discuss the brushes that I liked the most and least (my favourite ones are pictured) for your benefit.
Least Impressive:
Ok I admit I have not tried the Pixel-Point Eyeliner Brush yet, but for eyeliner I am feeling as though it will be super fat. I might be wrong, I have yet to try it, but it looks massive so I am currently feeling like I’d just prefer my old one. Also, the Brow Brush I feel will only please those after a very softly drawn brow, no sharp fierce ones with this brush oh no, but may be ideal for those not used to filling their brows in or after a very soft look.
Honorable Mentions:
These guys are all great brushes. The Detailer Brush has a million uses and is nice and small, a lot of concealer or lip brushes are either too big or too pointed or are just made from poor hairs that they are easily forgotten, this is versatile. The Base Shadow Brush is great, applies product well, and blends as it goes. A really great shadow brush for anyone who feels like they suck at eyeshadow. And the Pointed Foundation Brush, which is surprisingly small, is actually great for around the eyes, nose and mouth. Basically it is just much more precise, maybe not ideal if you feel you have a larger face but I think it would work well for anyone, and really the shining glory for foundation is next and you’ll use it and be all ‘Oh my beautiful face is so extra bangin’ with this brush!’ and of course there is also the Accent Brush, which is a pretty standard detailing shadow brush. Its good. But not that exciting.
The Holy Grail:
My three favourites from this collection are the Contour Brush, the Buffing Brush and the Deluxe Crease Brush. Basically if you are to buy any brushes from these guys BUY THESE ONES. You can probably add in the Base Shadow Brush if you feel less skilled with eyeshadow. The Contour Brush has a tapered point at the tip, designed to hold product on the point and blend with the outer bristles, as does the Deluxe Crease Brush. These two brushes use that tapered tip way better than any other brush I have used so far. But basically that tip means for anyone (which is everyone generally) that has trouble creating a good socket eye with eyeshadow or contouring or applying blush that looks natural, these brushes will make it sooo much more easy it is insane. INSANE. For foundation, the Buffing Brush is where it is at. Pixiwoo tend to use this in most videos now, basically because it is good. It is more compact than the Stippling brush from places like MAC etc, which means you can use it for mineral foundation, but also for liquid because it buffs and is synthetic. But my experience with this brush is that it resulted in a really even, blended application with no streaking (with liquid foundation) and made a full coverage foundation appear as though it was a very light base, even though you had the amazing coverage. And it was really really easy to use.
I haven’t even gone through all the things you can use these brushes for, but basically you should buy them, they’re really good and crazy cheap for brushes. Loads of people don’t realise how much a brush can enhance your makeup. If you can justify buying a lipstick that you will wear once a month, you can justify buying a brush you will use every day. GO FORTH and USE BRUSH my PRETTIES!!
